You are scheduled to take your FCAT Reading Exam this Tuesday, 4/22, and Wednesday, 4/23. Bring on the 5's! :o) ROLL PERIOD 1 - You have four new articles in your Newsela binder. Two have quizzes, while the other two do not. You will need to read all of them and do the quizzes for the two that have quizzes. You DO NOT have to do the PLESS activity sheet; instead, you will do Dialectical Journal Charts for these. CLICK HERE to access that chart, and CLICK HERE for the directions. Do at least five entries per article.
BE SURE YOU ARE SETTING THE READING LEVEL AT "MAX." We checked your Newsela activity this week (grades will be entered on Monday), and we recognized that a few of you don't even have accounts yet, some of you are lowering the reading level, and some of you are not even doing the quizzes...which is like throwing points down the drain! GET IT DONE! Learn from these articles, so you can use them as PLESS examples for your General Paper exam. :) You must read the articles and take the quizzes by Monday at 7 p.m. The dialectical journal charts are due on Thursday when you come to class. REMEMBER TO GET A GOOD NIGHT'S REST on MONDAY & TUESDAY for your FCAT on TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY! LOVE YOU ALL! <3 MoGo's Kids:

ROLL Period 1: You have two more Newsela articles to read. You will need to do the quizzes, as well as the PLESS Graphic Organizer. You do NOT need to print these articles. You also need to finish your two B paragraphs and the conclusion of our private/state schools prompt. THIS IS ALL DUE ON TUESDAY, but we will see you on Monday! What is your view? 13) How far would you agree that most people today are too smart to be manipulated by advertising? 14) To what extent are art galleries still important in the cultural life of your country? 15) How far would you consider that royal and/or celebrity weddings merit the attention they receive worldwide? This is all due Monday--for all periods! Yes, I'm speaking to you, 2nd period. ;o) Love you all! Enjoy your weekend. MoGo's Classes:
Your projects are due Monday, 4/7 (period 1) and Tuesday, 4/8 (period 2). Make sure to include evidence from the novel in your written rationale, but DO NOT retell the story--I already read it! ROLL Period 1 - You're doing the two new Newsela articles in your Newsela online binder. Follow the same directions in our last post. You also need to have your class binder organized. SEE YOU TOMORROW. <3 :)
MoGo's 2nd Period Class: For home learning tonight, 4/2/14, read two of the articles I most recently added to your binder on newsela.com; make sure to choose ones that have quizzes. Complete your reading log too. Remember to also write the two-paragraph response to the article you read in class today. (To what extent are dogs more similar to humans than primates? ROLL Period 1 - Due on 4/1
Go to Newsela.com and register for our class: ROLL Period 1. The code for our class is XLFVR.
Once you register, access the two articles that have been assigned (click on the Binder icon at the top of your screen to see them). When you access the articles, you should set your lexile at MAX! Print the articles, ANNOTATE as you read (yes, we'll be checking annotations), then take the quiz. To save ink and paper, you can print two pages per sheet, or you can copy and paste the article into a Word document (make the font and graphics smaller and the lines tighter), then print it. In addition, for each article you will need to complete the PLESS graphic organizer. Click HERE to download and print. :) Bring your annotated articles and your completed PLESS sheets to class on 4/1 (not an April Fool's joke). We miss you! ROLL - PERIOD 1:
We added a tab at the top for our Ides of March Fair. It is titled "Caesar." Go there to add what you will bring on Thursday for our Ides of March Fair. (BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OF THE POST; MANY OF YOU ARE NOT PROVIDING MY RATIONALE! SEE MY POST IN THE MIX TO SEE WHAT I MEAN!) Remember, your projects are due Tuesday and the Ides of March Fair is on Tuesday. Be sure to wear your toga over your uniform on Thursday. :) There are several sites on the Web that explain/show how to make a toga. We look forward to seeing your projects and togas. :) MoGo's Kids: Click this link for the Julius Caesar PDF. Be sure to finish reading Act III by tomorrow, period 2, and by Friday, period 1. Be prepared for a quiz! (You haven't had one in a while...) Be sure to also take notes on what you read. :o) See you in class!
ROLL/ ALLEN/ BARRIONUEVO - To access the rubric for your Julius Caesar project, CLICK HERE. We recommend that you look at it ahead of time to ensure you have ALL of the elements. Click HERE for the vocab list. MoGo's Classes:
2nd Period: Tomorrow (Friday, 3/7), you will work on four newsela.com articles in class; they will be printed for you, but bring your own reading logs. The articles I chose do not have quizzes online, so YOU will create quizzes. Design four questions for each article (for a total of 16 questions) that test reading comprehension--compare/contrast, vocabulary, inferences, main idea, etc. Your questions must be multiple-choice and you must provide four answer choices: two should be completely wrong, one should be a distractor, and the last should be correct and supported by the text. Write your questions on the back of the corresponding article. Then, take the quiz on pg. 30 in the back of Divergent. This, I want done on a sheet of notebook paper. Include your answers to the questions as well as the results of the faction to which you belong. Write a response of at least a paragraph in length to the outcome of your quiz. Do you agree? Are you surprised? Are you divergent? Provide details to support your response.
Period 1 & 2 HOMEWORK: Read "With genetic testing, patients can see the future" and "Oldest skeletal remains in Americas to be reburied." Make sure to set the reading level to MAX! Complete the quiz (DNA article only) and reading logs. :o) I love and miss you all! Have a nice weekend! :o* ROLL'S FIRST PERIOD
